Password Guidelines
To ensure the safety and security of our internal network, computer passwords must be changed every 365 days and must meet the following criteria:
- Passwords must contain a minimum of 12 characters.
- Passwords must contain characters from at least 3 of the following 5 categories:
- Lower case alphabetic characters (a, b, c, d, e, f, etc.)
- Upper case alphabetic characters (A, B, C, D, E, F, etc.)
- Numeric characters (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.)
- Special characters (comma, period, ?, !, @, #, $, %, ^, &, *, (, ), -, +)
- Unicode characters (may be language specific)
- Passwords can consist of a "passphrase" - a series of words, such as a simple sentence like, My.2.dogs.are.great! Or, My2dogsaregreat! Passphrases are generally easier to create and remember rather than a long password. Please refer to the Passwords Security website for detailed information on how to create a successful pass phrase.
- Passwords must be different from the last 6 passwords used.
- Password cannot include a subset of your first or last name, or a subset of your user account name.
